Q: Tell us about your role here at DebtBook.

A: As an Implementation Manager at DebtBook, I work directly with new and existing customers to guide them through our Lease, Subscription, and most recently Debt, implementation processes. I manage the full implementation experience through a series of meetings and in-application training calls to ensure the customer is more confident in their technical knowledge and comfortable within the actual application. Ultimately, our team works to provide customers with the support and product guidance they need to utilize DebtBook most effectively to streamline their accounting compliance needs. It’s great to see our customers gain proficiency within the application as the implementation progresses, and it’s very rewarding to hear from customers about how much more efficient and accurate their compliance process will be moving forward with DebtBook’s solutions.

Q: What do you enjoy about working at DebtBook?

A: First and foremost, I really enjoy working with our entire implementation team. It’s a fun and collaborative team dynamic, and I think we all push each other to continue to learn and improve in our roles. I also value how the company prioritizes employees’ growth by ensuring we have consistent access to professional support, product knowledge, and other learning opportunities. These resources have helped me reset my career in a whole new industry, gain new technical skills, and develop in my role.

Q: Tell us what you enjoy doing outside of work!

A: I really like playing as much golf as possible with my friends, especially now that I’m back in the South and the weather cooperates most of the year. I love college sports, football and basketball mainly, as I grew up in a state without professional sports and cheered for the University of Louisville Cardinals. I’m still a fan and I love living here in North Carolina so I can see them on TV more often playing other ACC teams. One random hobby is that I like to draw, mainly cityscapes and buildings. Growing up, my dad worked in the home-building business and I’d get to try my hand at drawing blueprints and home designs with him before his final drafts. My interest remains after all these years, and I try to draw a new skyline or cityscape when I can. The Charlotte skyline keeps changing on me!

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I grew up hoping to be involved in politics. I was interested in various types of public service, especially the idea of running for government office and representing where I’m from. I’ve always enjoyed following the political news, even at an embarrassingly early age, and that’s one of the reasons I accepted a federal government job in Washington, D.C. Once I was there, it didn’t take too long to realize that running for office in the future was not for me. Instead, I enjoyed the aspects of the job related to research, strategic communications, and working with different constituencies to help provide effective solutions to government challenges. Those interests gave me more clarity on what I wanted to do next with my career, and I believe that prior experience helped prepare me for the role I’m in now.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about being an Implementation Manager?

A: I enjoy implementation because it connects with almost every other function at the company. It provides you with ample opportunities to work with the other teams involved in the customer experience, from Sales and Customer Success to Support, and learn about how their work benefits the customer journey before and after implementation. We also get to work with the subject matter experts on the Product and Enablement teams who help us build upon our accounting knowledge and product understanding. The Implementation Manager role provides exposure into most facets of the company, and as someone newer to SaaS, this access helped me better understand the different functions of the company and greatly improve my overall product knowledge.

Q: Is there a book, podcast, or other learning tool you recommend to other professionals?

A: I recommend A Tribe of Mentors by Timothy Ferris. I received it as a gift from someone a few years back, and I thought it was a nice guide to better understand feedback and advice. It includes more than 100 distinct approaches to happiness and success, and it helps promote the importance of thought diversity as it relates to professional development. Good advice can come in many different styles from various sources, and in our Customer Success roles, it’s beneficial to be open to learning new approaches or trying new methods.
